Ireland

Irlande

I discovered Ireland while doing my ODyssée CD release tour in Europe in April 2007. Before that I met a lot of great Irish folks on the road including in Australia in 2005. During that trip to Australia, I sang some of my songs in French to them and they loved it. It really made me want to go and discover their beautiful country. It took me a while to work on that entire project but finally made it there last April.

Although my stay was a bit short, I really enjoyed it. My first stop was Dublin: an incredible and welcoming city. I was lucky to be able to have a "sunny" day off on Saturday, having only to play on the Sunday evening. I therefore took some time to wander around the center of the city and feel the vibes.

It has a mixture between modernity and an old time heritage of the past with beautiful buildings and paved streets. Today Dublin seems very dynamic. I, of course, tasted the Guiness and was delighted to see in the evening, as night was falling, that music was everywhere. Wandering around I heard all kind of different music genres coming out of the walls of various pubs; should it be traditional Irish music, singer songwriters, folk singers, rock bands or electronic music DJs.

I was also lucky anough to be invited to see several concerts organized during that weekend (thanx Angela !). I took advantage of all those musical encounters to do short videos of some of the great artists I met: Fight Like Apes & Andy Earley.

The concert I did in Dublin on the Sunday evening was a lot of fun. I played with 6 other bands who were all on a compilation called Sunday Roast, a party that takes place every Sunday in a pub where they offer music and free roast potatoes. When I arrived to do the sound check, I first discovered that the organizer had scheduled me for the next session and asked me in a very nice "naïve" way if I could come back the next week ! Everything turned out fine in the end and I think people really enjoyed my music...the evening was great. Check out also the videos of that night and discover one other very interesting artist that I played with called Robotnik. Whatch out for the fan!

After this beautiful weekend in Dublin, I headed up to Belfast, in Northern Ireland. Arriving on a Monday, things were more quiet than the previous days. I met some friends from Australia there and in the evening did a concert in an incredible venue, a place called Laverys Bunker (a 3 story Pub !). The next day before taking the plane back to Paris, in the evening, I wandered around Belfast for a few hours and saw some of the wounds from the past in the Nothern Irish capital. Check out the video editing I did of that on my song "Le Petit Prince".

I would really like to go back to Ireland and discover other parts of this beautiful and very music friendly country....I'm working on it...

)
