La "Fête de la musique comes to America" Tour 08 (French)Bonjour,Il y a quelques mois, Tété (myspace officiel de Tété) m'envoyait un e-mail me disant qu'il voudrait bien faire un "road trip" aux Etats-Unis et venir faire des concerts avec moi au pays de l'oncle Sam. Au même moment je rencontrais les responsables du service culturel du consulat de France à San Francisco qui me parlaient de leur souhait de monter une "fête de la musique" dans leur ville. C'était l'occasion rêvée de joindre l'utile à l'agréable... Depuis le projet à pris de l'ampleur et c'est transformé en une tournée de la côte Ouest des Etats-Unis de Los Angeles à Seattle en passant par Portland. Voulant partager ses nouvelles compositions dans la langue de Molière, Scott Fisher, un ami musicien vivant à Los Angeles et dont la mère est française (Myspace Scott Fisher), c'est également joint au projet. Thursday, June 19, 2008 "la Fête de la musique" Tour 08, Day 1, FrenchBonjour Madame Monsieur,Ca y est Los Angeles...je suis arrivé par avion de Portland, cela faisait 15 ans que je n'avais pas mis les pieds a LA !!! J'avais oublié comment c'etait GRAND !!! :] Après Tété arrived by the flight Air France 0072 coming directly from....Paris !!! Après une petite attente a l'aeroport, Tete est arrive par le vol Air France 0072 en provenance de....Paris !!! C'est une réel plaisir de le revoir et de pouvoir rediscuter avec lui de choses et d'autres. Cette tournée a vraiment debuté sur de bonnes bases... :-) Le soir nous sommes allés faire un tour dans Hollywood et LA (Sunset Blvd et Hollywood Blvd avec toutes les étoiles des stars incrustées dans le trottoir et les empreintes de stars du showbiz dans le bitume :] |
Thursday, June 19, 2008 "la Fête de la musique" Tour 08, Day 1, EnglishHello,Just flew in from Portland into LA... I haven't been in Los Angeles for 15 years...I forgot how huge a city it was...!!! I waited a few hours and picked up Tété at the airport...it was great to see him again and to be able to share our experiences and chat with him too... After struggling to rent a car and finally taking a shuttle to go downtown we hanged out in the city in the evening wondering around Hollywood Bld and Sunset Bld. The tour is starting great with great vibes !!! LA seems full of opportunities, everybody seems to have an art project to defend...I am now sitting in a coffee shop writting this blog and Tété is having a chat and filming a guy that looks like Lenny Kravitz playing the piano !!! You know what I'm talking about !! :-) More to come tomorrow, Eric |
Sunday, June 22, 2008 "la Fête de la musique" Tour 08, Day 2/2eme jourAujourd'hui était la première vraie journée à Los Angeles. Nous avons appris que notre concert du soir à Los Angeles avait été annulé ; ça commence fort !!! lol. On décide alors de retrouver Scott et ses musiciens à North Hollywood après une de leur répète. Après des mois de préparation sur ce projet, cela fait du bien d'enfin se retrouver tous ensembles. Scott rencontrait Tété pour la première fois:::Ce soir là nous sommes allé voir un concert à Hermosa Beach, en banlieue de LA au Boogaloo Club. Le groupe qui jouait s'appelait Population Game. Après cela nous sommes allé squatté chew un ami de Scott et très talentueux musiciens Justin Hopkins : http://www.myspace.com/justinhopkins. Tété nous as aussi gratifié d'une ou deux chansons |
Sunday, June 22, 2008 "la Fête de la musique" Tour 08, Day 2/2eme jourToday was our first day hanging out in LA. We are staying in North Hollywood and spent some time this morning in a Coffee shop working on the web...it's HOT outside really hot !!!We also discovered that the gig we were supposed to have at the Crash Mansion got cancelled....grrrrrr ! We decide to catch up with Scott Fisher after his rehearsal and head out to Manhattan beach to go and eat sushis with all the musicians that will be on tour with us of all 3 bands... After working and preparing this tour for so long, it was a beautiful feeling to be all together... After the sushis, we then go to the Boogaloo Club at Hermosa beach and saw the band Population Game. After that we hung out at Justin Hopkin's Appartment. He played us a few songs, what a great artist ! Great voice, great songs and great guy, check him out : http://www.myspace.com/justinhopkins Then Tete did a few songs also for us on the guitar. We spent the first part of the day recording some vocals on one of Scott's songs (sirène) that is going to be on his next album. Jesus Chuy Flores is working with Scott on producing this forthcoming album. The song has a reggae feel to it. Tété was the first to start doing background vocals. A great Tété vibe ! It was fun to see the energy and the personal touch he brought to the song, a lot of soul !!!

Nous avons passé la journée à enregistré des voix sur une chanson de Scott dans un studio à LA avec Jesus Chuy Flores un producteur reconnu et ami de Scott. Tété a été le premier a commencer. C'était mortel de volir la touche très personnelle qu'il a apporté à la chanson... |

C'était aussi très intéressant de voir comment Chris, le pianiste de Scott et Bob le guitariste travaillent ensemble. Chris a l'oreille absolue et un de nos grands jeux pendant le voyage était toujours de le tester de lui jouer une note et de lui demander de deviner ce qu'elle était....Après le studio en route vers le Nord et Davis proche de Sacramento Sur la route et à 8 dans un van l'intéraction entre chacun est cruciale...c'est mieux de bien s'entendre !!! lol. Scott et ses "boys" voyagent souvent ensemble en tournée et sont habitués à de longues heures de route...les places proches des fenêtres sont stratégiques car on peut mieux se reposer... |
It was also interesting to disover how Scott, Chris (keys) anc Bob (guitar) work together. Chris actually has the perfect pitch. Through out the trip one of our game is to ask him to give us the key in which a guitar solo is in or even play a note on the Glockenspiel and have him give it to us...
After that studio session we went to pickup Enrique, Scott's drummer and did a quick stop to eat a hamburger before we hit he road. We left Los Angeles pretty late (9pm) heading North towards Davis near Sacramento. A 6 hour drive was ahead of us... On the road the human interaction between people is very important. You are on top of each other all the time, so it's better to get along well...! :) Scott Fisher and his boys have already their habits being so used to traveling in the van together, we just blended in...I rapidly learned that some spots in the Van (for example the ones near the windows are the best to sleep because you can rest your head against it !!! It's a blessing Scott has this van... |

We left the next day, June 21st, Fete de la Musique Day, at 9 h 30 to go up to San Francisco to do the soundcheck for our gig at Justin Herman Plaza facing the Embarcadero. What a setting.
I have worked so hard on all that tour that I have to admit that seeing us all over there and seeing that beautiful stage facing those buildings is AWESOME (a word commonly used here in California, lol ) !!! |

Scott was the first one of us to play live... I then played a set. I looked up a few times while I was singing just to enjoy the moment. Tete followed us. It was incredible to see how stressed out he was for his first gig on the West Coast. Of course all went really well and he kicked ass

Commander à manger dans un Drive Trough pour 8 personnes peut s'avérer être une sacrée aventure !!! lol | After hanging out a bit in SF, and signing a lot of Cds (awesome !!!) we headed back to Davis to spend the night. On the way there everybody was hungry. When 8 people are hungry at the same time it sometimes becomes a adventure lol ! (the funny part is that we had to go back to get Anthony's onion rings !!!! lol) : |

Friday, July 11, 2008"la Fête de la musique" Tour 08, Day 5/5eme JourCe matin j'ai eu le temps de profiter du soleil caifornien et de la piscine...j'évacue un peu des restes de la fête d'hier soir...lol. Après avoir regardé un peu du match de foot Espagne-Italie, ce qui nous a valu une dance de censure de Tété devant la télé lol, nous partons tous ensembles prendre un petit déjeuner à l'américaine dans un "dinner". Pour aller faire un "House concert" (concert privé dans la maison d'un particulier), la route n'était pas très longue. C'était une superbe soirée d'éte....que la fête commence |

I went swimming in Chris' parents pool and then we all went to have breakfast after whatching a little bit of Spain vs Italy from the Euro 2008. It was a short drive to Elk Grove, where we were going to play for a house concert in a ranch house. It was a beautiful summer evening. |
| Jerry Hannan qui jouait aussi avec nous ce soir là est un auteur compositeur interprête (un songwriter comme on dit par ici) incroyable. Il a écrit une des chansons chanté par Eddie Vedder sur la BO du film de Sean Penn "into the Wild" (Jerry Hannan "Society". Voici une vidéo d'une des chansons que Jerry à chanté ce soir là; désolé pour le manque de lumière de la vidéo | Jerry Hannan a great singer songwriter was also sharing the bill with us. One of his songs "Society" was sung by Eddie Vedder on the "Into the Wild" soundtrack (Jerry Hannan "Society")

Toute cette soirée a été une super réussite, à la fin de la soirée tout le monde dansait et nous faisions tout des titres ensemble...Merci Tété et Scott pour les coeurs sur Hey Ya ! Old School lol. A la toute fin de soirée nous avons tous attérris dans une chambre d'un Hilton pas très loin de là et Jerry nous a fait la gentillesse de nous jouer quelques dernières chansons.... |

His music really appeals to me. I always admire talented songwriters like him capable of creating so much with just a guitar and a voice. The entire house party was "great success" (as Borat says...lol). All 4 acts (Tété, Scott Fisher, Jerry Hannan and myself) all played some songs together and people seemed to be having fun and every body was dancing... That evening we all slept at a Hilton hotel near by (thanx Rick for the rooms !!!) and Jerry was kind enough to play us some of his songs in one of the rooms were we all gathered. Tété and Mark Evilsizer were so tired that they fell asleep listening to his beautiful tunes !!! What a way to end the evening... |

Today was a long day of driving from Sacramento, California to Portland, Oregon. It took us about 13 hours... What do you do in the van all this time ??? Here is the answer :-) |

"la Fête de la musique" Tour 08, Day 7/7eme jourSeattle Babe !!! When I was a kid Seattle for me meant : Rain, Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Well we did not get any rain, and unfortunately we did not get to meet or see neither Nirvana or Pearl Jam. :( After sleeping in Portland, the night before, it was a short 3 hour drive to Seattle. We played at the High Dive that night a great medium size club in the Freemont neighborhood. |
| No French Text :( | A lot of French people showed up to the event and the place was really packed for a Tuesday night. Again what great energy, I felt really lucky and thankful to be there...That city has so much "rock history" in its veins that it's amazing for me to play my songs upthere. |
